What's the difference between Hey Monika's beginner, intermediate and advanced levels?

Beginner Scenarios focus on core mechanics without added complexity — Demo Company UK is a general-purpose practice client that covers the fundamental bookkeeping tasks end to end. Intermediate Scenarios add a fuller, messier document set and more ledger complexity — The Seaside Shed (a seasonal café) and Willow & Finch (an interior design business) are both intermediate-level clients with more moving parts. Advanced Scenarios like Lighthouse Wellness Practice and VoltWise EV Solutions add either genuine client resistance or larger-scale commercial complexity on top of the technical demands — a resistant sole trader who doesn't want to engage with Making Tax Digital, or a growing company with overdue debtors and a director who needs confident, calm communication.

More detail

  • Beginner: core mechanics, one type of transaction at a time (Demo Company UK).

  • Intermediate: fuller document sets, more ledger complexity, mixed transaction types (The Seaside Shed, Willow & Finch).

  • Advanced: genuine client difficulty or commercial complexity layered on top of technical demands (Lighthouse Wellness Practice, VoltWise EV Solutions).

Frequently asked questions

Is the level difference about the accounting topics or the client complexity? Both — harder Scenarios use more technically demanding transactions AND more challenging client situations. At advanced level, you're not just getting the numbers right; you're also managing a difficult conversation at the same time.
Which level should I start at? Most trainees start at beginner or intermediate — the Foundational Challenges are designed to be done first, then Demo Company UK as a first Scenario. Only move to advanced when you're confident at intermediate.

Can I jump to advanced without doing beginner? You can, but advanced Scenarios assume the core bookkeeping mechanics are already solid. Most trainees find they need the intermediate level to build confidence before adding client-management complexity on top.
